Living Better with Living Threads

Shopping, InteriorsLibby RasmussenComment

I’ve made it my mission to start to become a more conscientious consumer. Whether it’s wearing chemical-free deodorant or buying ethical, pasture-raised eggs, I’m slowly but surely learning more each day about the little things we can do as consumers to make a difference.  While I’ve always been aware and skeptical of the social and economic (damage) impact of purchasing “disposable” clothing and home goods, I’m just as guilty as the next gal at H&M.  Countless articles and documentaries have exposed the dangerous outcomes of low consumer prices and the strain and dangers it imposes on those overseas making these items.  Most notably, would be the awful treatment and work conditions of those who work in the textile industry.

Sometimes with awareness, comes frustration.  I know I’m often torn with possessing this knowledge as a consumer, and not knowing where to go with it.  Then I met Amanda Zehner, founder and owner of Living Threads, a company dedicated to bridging artisans and sustainable markets around the world.  Essentially, Living Threads helps to empower artisans they work with by providing a reliable income while in turn, producing amazing quality woven goods to their consumers. Living Threads directly supports the artisans: allowing them to provide for their families while also supporting ancient traditions.

What I found most incredible were the colors and the vibrancy of the fabrics.  Many of the threads are dyed with plants, vegetables, and fruits.  The table runners and napkins are one of a kind and are handwoven on traditional Mayan back-strap looms in Guatemala.

Here are some of my favorite items from Living Threads

Lyn Placemats from Nicaragua
Kus Napkins from Guatemala
Zuru Throw Blanket
Root Brush from Mexico
La Basico Striped Pillowcase from Guatemala

DIY Kate Spade Bow Pillow

DIYLibby RasmussenComment

How cute are thee DIY pillows from Kate Spade? Such an easy way to incorporate a little whimsy to a couch or chair.  We love what Kristin Jackson from hunted interior did with the stripe fabric here for her daughter's room.

Chloe's Umbrella Door 01.jpg

It's really easy to find fabric by the yard on Etsy.  Saves you a trip to the craft or fabric store!
What fabric would you choose?  We love this Palm Leaf Print (of course) and better yet, it's on sale!

Hobby Lobby Decor for CHEAP

We cannot get over how inexpensive these items from Hobby Lobby are. Yes, Hobby Lobby. The sales right now are unbelievable.  I snagged the white fur rug, two of the resin triangles, the dalmatian pillow, and the gold peace sign sculpture.  These will be great additions to my bookshelf in my office and my peacock chair in my bedroom.  Make sure to check out the sale while it lasts!
